The Commission's service area includes 41 tobacco-dependent localities in Southwest and Southside Virginia. Local governments and nonprofits serving those localities are eligible to apply to the Commission's grant programs for projects that will enhance the economic growth and development of the region (note that Economic Development grant funds are awarded in separate programs for Southside and Southwest). Southside Localities
Economic Development program funds are allocated to each county in southside Virginia by a formula that takes into account tobacco production, job losses, economic development impact and warehouse designations. Town and nonprofits are also eligible applicants. |
