The Crossroads Institute: A Rural Entrepreneurial and Educational Initiative fills many needs in the City of Galax and the Counties of Grayson and Carroll. Tobacco Commission grants assisted in renovating a former Lowes retail store where the Crossroads Institute now houses the Southwest Regional Enterprise Center (a small business and light industry incubator), a Center for Technical and Entrepreneurial Studies (that meets the training needs of area employers), a Center for Lifelong Learning (provides GED and other educational programs), as well as a satellite site for Wytheville Community College.
